The Jewel of the NIle (1985) - by Faro

This film is a subtle and intelligent navigation through the treacherous micro-political intrigues of the Middle East, with its numerous warring factions and constantly shifting allegiances. At the center of this complex film is the powerful and magnetic personality of Omar. This strong-willed and dedicated man is trying to forge a new political union between the many political, tribal, and religious groups of his country, and in so doing he hopes to achieve a long-sought universal strength and peace for his people… all of his people.

Sadly, his grand mission is being threatened by a small group of religious terrorists who live outside the boundaries of normal society. These crazed desert people are being assisted by a dimwitted American romance novelist suffering from delusions of journalistic grandeur, an American mercenary with a predilection for choosing his clothes while high on cocaine, and an angry dwarf from Queens.

Will Omar unite his people? Will he overcome the obstacles placed in his way by the imperialistic American devils from the West? Or will crypto-democratic propaganda and intolerant mystic fanaticism shatter the fragile harmony that Omar has struggled so heroically to create?

Watch this stunning filmic journey into the heart of human and geo-political relationships to find out!

And then watch this video of the movie's theme song, "When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going" by Billy Ocean. It features coked-up hotness, dwarf from Queens, and poodle-hair novelist doing a dance choreographed to be a literal interpretation of the nonsensical lyrics interspersed with action-packed clips from the movie.
