Queen Margot…. what a whore. She’s so dedicated to the 7th Wave Feminist concept of the Zipless Fuck* that even though she is royalty and can choose any man from her court that she wants, she still decides to dress up like a prostitute and wander the streets at night to choose her lovers from the lonely groups of men who gather on street corners at night... this woman is an inspiration! I love this woman!
Sometimes I really love the French.
But it should also be noted that this film suffered a classic marketing bait & switch scenario when it signed a distribution deal in the United States. The original French posters were as bloody and beautiful as the movie itself... which is good and honest advertising, seeing as nearly 50% of the film comprises of an exquisitely shot reenactment of the Saint Bartholomew's Day Massacre of 1572 in Paris.
On the other hand, the American posters suggest an autumnal night between lovers under a big red blanket, with the possibility of wood-smoke and hot apple cider teasingly nearby.
Sometimes I really hate Americans.
