"When you need a movie to fall in love..."
Winter is my favorite time in Manhattan: Standing on a corner we are long thin giants while our shadows smell the roses. No sound of a siren just a long horn, my driver with his head to the wheel. There is a deep silence when it snows and everything turns to stone. Did I mention my parents are friends and we spent Christmas Eve all together in Paris?
Springtime: When the city dresses up, little boys wearing little ties hold their nanny’s hand. Family sized lint brushes wipe down suite jackets and strollers, while hats and flowers are strapped to their appendages. Petals and Wallets erupt on Upper 5th Avenue. My sister swallowed her engagement ring two times and my other 2 sisters are in love with the same boy.
Fall: It makes me want to go buy a pumpkin. It really is my favorite season. Quick steps and long gazes, a quiet calm floating through the air, the smell of decaying leaves and the occasional mystery cigar passing. It turns out my brother isn’t a Republican after all; he just was not getting enough oxygen to the brain.
Summer: Always going or coming from the game, a beach, or museum- the best time to be in Manhattan when everyone else leaves. Oh and then there is Rome and all the boys I fell in love with along the way. I wish I had stolen the white linen cocktail napkin from Café Carlyle where Kathleen Landis sings and Woody Allen plays with a jazz band.
