The Manifesto: Read After Watching

Film is a multi-layered discourse; a complex conversation between narrative, sound, image, and text. This synthesis can act as a powerful force upon those of us who watch, shaping and coloring our ideas and imaginations. And there are many of us who watch, because movies say things for us that we believe we cannot say for ourselves. That is why we love the movies, but it is also why we must question them and struggle with their influence and power over us.

Here at RAW we have decided that now is the time to ask these questions of films and of ourselves. We will add our own voices to the discourse, and we hope that many of you will feel the same and send in submissions of your own thoughts. If you are happy, send in joy; if you are fearful, send in fear; if you are uncertain, send in confusion; if you send in nothing, then you don’t exist.
